Flats approved

North Petherton Town Council and six residents objected to the plans, but Sedgemoor District Council's development control committee gave consent on Tuesday, November 11.
At 45 Fore Street, near St Mary's Church, a cottage will be knocked down and 10 flats will be built in an L-shaped block with an inner courtyard with 10 parking spaces.
But town councillors said the development was too large for the site.
Six people wrote letters of objection, saying that the flats would create increased traffic and would be out of character, too dominant and overbearing for the area. They also claimed there was a lack of amenity space and a lack of visibility, and that the block would devalue housing in the area.
The police said a gate should be installed to deter people who did not live there from using the parking area, and that lights should be installed in the car park.
Sedgemoor planning official Shanta Hobbs told the council's development and control committee it was an appropriate site for housing in the town.
She said: "There would be no adverse impact on any neighbouring residents in terms of loss of light, visual domination or overlooking."
Planning consent was given to the developer Mr R Pitman with the condition that the front stone wall is retained and a gate is put on the west side leading to the footpath.
